Tecumseh is the worn flannel shirt, of hiking in New Hampshire. Not at all glamorous. But a perfect lazy afternoon outing.

Sometimes you need to do something short and sweet, shelving ambition for the day. Heading up Tecumseh in the autumn snow was that and more.
Mt Tecumseh (3,997 feet). Thornton, NH. 2021-10-27 (Wednesday.) Via Tecumseh Trail. 5 miles round-trip. 52 dF at the base, winds were mediated by dense tree cover, but making noise at the treetops. Mt Tecumseh might not be four thousand feet, but it still carries its weight as well as any four thousand footer.
We all knew it was coming, but now, it’s official: Tecumseh is only 3,997 feet high. But that doesn’t diminish its stature. It’s still a great outing.
An easier 4,000 footer, with surprising views of nearby mountains, and abundant spring wildflowers along the trail.
And so it begins… Mt Tecumseh, Thornton, NH. 2018-02-15 (Thursday.) Via the Tecumseh Trail. 4,003 ft. 38 dF at the summit, winds were very well mediated by dense tree cover.
